President’s Annual Report
Halifax County Branch – RTO
02 April 2009
The Halifax County Branch had its first meeting
on 17 April 2008, attended by about forty
retirees. A branch executive was elected.
One year later, we have over 400 members.
We had our first luncheon on 12 June 08. We have
since put on four more luncheons, averaging over
85 participants per luncheon.
Our branch has also organized other social
events, including bridge, a jive lesson
(cancelled due to weather) and a cooking demo. A
golfing event is also on the drawing board and
other events are being considered for the
future.
I did a presentation on RTO & branch membership
at a Pre-Retirement Seminar on 09 Dec. We are
committed to get new retirees into the RTO and
build our membership further.
In concert with the other Metro branches, we
organized a Pension information session on 27
Jan 2009. It is important that retirees (with
the RTO’s help) be fully informed about their
retirement benefits.
The RTO’s Provincial AGM is being held on May 26th
at the Delta Halifax. Attendance is open to all
members who wish to go. Details will be posted
on our website at halifaxcounty.rto.nstu.ca.
Also check out the latest issue of the RTO
Newsletter, The Retired Teacher. Members of our
branch can also put their names forward for
positions on provincial RTO committees and the
RTO Executive.
This branch may submit resolutions to the RTO’s
AGM, but the submission deadline requires any
resolutions to be voted on at the April Branch
AGM.
There is still much work to do, particularly in
reaching out to retirees in the eastern reaches
of the County.
Finally and most importantly, I would like to
thank our amazing Executive: Colleen Putt, Nancy
Barkhouse, Joan McMullin, Diane Anderson, Jean
Densley and Yvonne Cormier. Nothing would have
happened without them. They worked tirelessly
for our branch members and any credit for a
great first year belongs to them.
I would like to that you all for the opportunity
to serve you as our branch’s first President. I
have enjoyed the experience and now look forward
to continuing to serve the branch as your first
Past President.
Respectfully submitted,
Colin Campbell
